Mary Neal doesn’t want to move out of the house her parents bought in the 1950s. But she fears she may not have a choice.

The impact of gentrification happening in her Sterling neighborhood, she said, may be what forces her out.

“Almost everybody I knew on my street as a little girl has died or moved on. Only two of us remain,” said Neal, 68.

“New people have moved in, seeking refuge in the Sterling community,” she said. “Sterling is not going to be what it was. It’s going to be what it’s gonna be — for the wealthy.”
